“Charlotte” was in her early 40s when her three children were placed under legal guardianship in foster care.  She emphatically said that having her children placed in-care was not in the best interest of her children. She does not believe that the social workers, legal personnel, or other experts that she interacted with had her children’s or her own interests in mind. She described the foster parents she interacted with as hypocrites, but did not explain how or why. The CPS supervisor assigned to her case was eventually fired for making false accusations. Charlotte had no representation in court.  She said the system “targets low-income, single mothers who don’t know what their rights are.”  She believes that the goal of the system is supposed to be helping “families stay intact.”
